Grunge Me Up, Drag Me Up

For Chrissy my darling parentals gave me an iPad. It's fabulous for my line of work - I have my portfolio at my fingertips! But what has excited me even more than that are all of the fabulous photo editing apps available.

One of my favourites is the "Pic Grunger." It destroys your photos to look like vintage photographs that have been through WWIII. It's perfect for my Marie Antoinette photoshoot - makes it quite Steam Punk.

Another favourite is the "DragMe Epic" App which allows you to clip art your photograph to make you look like a drag queen.

Here are a few of my experiments.

PIPPIN @ Sidetrack Theatre

My latest show is up and running and it's a beauty!! The Broadway hit PIPPIN has hit the shores of Marrickville in an amazing "medieval" travelling troupe version directed by the beautiful Benita de Wit. It was a hard one to get up and running, but after so much hard work by myself and the whole production team, it's looking fantastic!

Catch PIPPIN at Sidetrack Theatre on now until December 17th, 2011. It's a very short run, so don't miss out!!!

There are some outstanding performances, including a gorgeous drag number by Gaynor Tension and a cute little burlesque number.

Tickets are on sale now at http://www.sidetrack.com.au/

More Patricia Field

I've been obsessed with Patricia Field ever since I realized she was the wardrobe stylist for Sex and the City. The stuff she does for Sex and the City is SOOOO different to the items she chooses for her store, but they're all awesome. Patricia Field on Bowery in New York is quite alternative and always has great costume ideas. Lately, it's been quite inspirational for my burlesque costumes. Here are more ideas that I'm obsessed with.

This pink spike epaulette would be stunning with my "glam rock" burlesque gig coming up in February for the Vanity Riots EP launch. My costume for that is a hot pink and leopard bustier and tutu, so this glam baby would work beautifully! There is also a double epaulette with a massive gold chain!

I am also obsessed with this white fringe epaulette. It would be perfect for my costume for my Mexico piece that I just did at the last Peel: Rocktober edition.

And for a stunning earring accessory - These feather spray earrings!

First Pastie Pop!

Last Wednesday I performed my first fan dance at The Peel: Rocktober Edition and it was a blast! A "sophisticated" number to the sultry "Down in Mexico" by the Coasters, the fans flew like birds. Unfortunately, there was one hitch. My pastic popped right off during my back bend. Whoops. Mustn't have glued it on well enough, even though it lasted a good hour flaunting about in the changeroom. That screwed me all up- there was no way I was going to reveal with only one pastie! But it was still a fun number and I get to do it again at Blues and Burlesque this coming friday. Check out the event HERE:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=257986394244158.

Also, for photos from last week's Mexican performance, check out the Australian Burlesque Calender's facebook page.

Feather Fans: Australia Post stuffs up again

I was so excited about a week ago. I had ordered a gorgeous pair of white ostrich feather fans for my next burlesque performance. They arrived this morning and like a little kid on Christmas I ripped open the packaging and opened one up. It was absolutely perfect. I even had a little twirl of it. Then, this afternoon I dove into the package again to get both out to start rehearsing and the second one has been mauled by Australia Post!!!! All along the fan "bones" it's broken where the package had been punched. Hopefully the lovely Ebay Seller from China will do something about it - if not I'll have to put my trusty crafty skills to the test to fix it. I hope it works out!!!! A pair of gorgeous white fans would be an amazing investment.

Here's the evidence:

Let us pray for them.

Photos from the Peel: Broken Hearts and Empty Wallets

So, on Wednesday night I had the amazing opportunity to grace the stage of the Slide for the first time and join miss Lauren LaRouge at The Peel: Broken Hearts and Empty Wallets. My act was called "Lil' Miss Costume Designer" and I was pretty much just making fun of myself. I had Jane (my mannequin) up onstage with me decked out in the "Circus" costume with even more feathers and I pretended to finish designing the garment. While doing so, my skirt rips and I run in embarrassment to the  back of the stage. It just so happens that my sleeves also fall off and in the end I just think it'll be best to take off all my clothes.

The skit was a hit! Everyone seemed to love it and the music was quite catchy (Goin' Nuts by G-Swing). The only issue was that when I took my shirt off a whole row of beads from my bra scattered all over the stage! The audience thought it was part of the act, mainly because the look of sheer horror on my face would have been hilarious!

I'm hoping to get my kit off again at the Peel's next show at the end of September. I'm thinking a fan dance?

In the mean time - here are photos from the night (taken by agentdeclan photography )

Debut Tomorrow Night!

So the time has absolutely FLOWN by and my onstage burlesque debut is TOMORROW NIGHT!!!
HOLY COW!

My costume is slowly coming together, but this is where my nerves go psycho. I haven't really finished making it all! And I kinda need to finish to even choreograph (there's lots of tearing and clothes falling off by themselves). So I'm got 2 full days to figure that out. Throughout today I'm sure to be updating with photos of the costume, so stay tooned.

In the meantime - buy tickets to THE PEEL:: BROKEN HEARTS AND EMPTY WALLETS . More information at THE SLIDE, and you can buy tickets by contacting the venue.

New Barbarella Outfit, bitch

Back in the good ol days (and yes, still) I have been obsessed with the 60s sci-fi Barbarella.

I was so obsessed that for my 21st birthday I made a Barbarella outfit to go with my "sluts in space" themed party.

I found this baby on Etsy today and I'm super psyched! Barbarella's back!

And to top it all off - the seller's from Toronto, my home town!

Work in Progress

Here's my underwear for my Burlesque routine at The Peel in a few weeks. It's nude to allude to the fact that I'll be topless anyways by the end of the performance, but with pasties. More is needed to be done to the garments - diamontes will be glued to the bra, fringe will be sewn to the back of the undies for a cute Wheels&Dollbaby look, and a corset will be made to match. But here is a sneak peak of the work in progress.

WIGS!!!!

Etsy is overflowing with awesome costume wigs and dramatic head pieces for all different styles. I'm now obsessed with them! I really want to learn how to make a wig - only way to do that is to study costume design at some massive opera house. Not many people do it anymore.

These are amazing - check them out and their stores!
